saying “less is more” and that despite the facade 
of giant recovery in the ’80s under the Reagan 
administration, the temper at the times remains 
very conservative. We have lots of experts and we, 
generally speaking, the American literary world, 
doesn’t trust poets unless they are clearly defined 
as poets and are confined in cages in the 
universities and write very tidy verse. McLuhan is in 
many ways a poet, he has a poetic text, he writes 
that way.
